DAY 3 - UBUD, BACK TO KUTA & SUNSET IN ULUWATU

Todays plan was to roam Ubud Market as we didn't have much time yesterday. We are then to take a shuttle at RP35,000 per person and head back to Kuta before ending the day at the Uluwatu Temple in Jimbaran

Ubud is a remarkable town in the middle of the island of Bali. For more than a century, it has been the island's preeminent centre for fine arts, dance and music. While it once was a haven for scruffy backpackers, cosmic seekers, artists and bohemians, Ubud is now a hot spot for literati, glitterati, art collectors and connoisseurs. It draws people who add something; people who are actively involved in art, nature, anthropology, music, dance, architecture, environmentalism, "alternative modalities," and more.

Ubud market had a wide selection of handicrafts.

We got some rattan place mats for home. Also bought a few gifts for friends.

A guess a lady would have bought more of the handbags, shoes and stuff... but we weren't much of a shopper there.

They even sell spices

Bargain is a must.

Fruits of her labor

Desserts anyone?

Durian, Rambutan and Mangosteens.... yehaa!!!

A few art shops

Murals on the walls

More handicrafts

Ubud was also rich in its architecture.

Here was where the Legong dance was held the night before. It coincides with the Kecak Dance and we didn't get to see it.

We then checked out of the hotel. Got into the shuttle bus and after an hour, we were back in Kuta. The shuttle bus was pretty lousy, no air conditioned, packed and bumpy. Should have arranged for a cab instead. I slept for most part of the journey anyways coz I was dead tired. We reached kuta. This time we tried cheking into Hard Rock Hotel but the price was high RP700,000 per nite. So we opted to stay at a cheaper hotel nearer to Jalan Pantai Kuta.

We ended up staying at Yulia Inn. Its strategic located, costs RP250,000 only, Air conditioned, Hot water, Astro, Very Large Room and attached to it is a restaurant. :D.. (actually it was the restaurant we went on the 1st day in Kuta ). Again.. we did some shopping and proceeded to Uluwatu temple for the sunset. We took a non-blue bird taxi my mistake without realizing it. Hence the taxi guy let the meter run while waiting for us in Uluwatu. Argh. An important note is that the Uluwatu Temple is guarded by monkeys. So pls do not wear any spectacles, jewelry or anything of those sorts... we saw someone's spectacles got snatched and crushed by the monkey.

The ancient Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple, dedicated to the sprits of the sea, is perched on steep cliffs which have formed where the land ends at the South East coast of the Island. Built in the eleventh century, the temple is one of the oldest and most important temples in Bali. Uluwatu Temple is a classic expression of ancient Bali in a spectacular setting, high above the crashing waves. This is one of the oldest and most important temples in Bali, one of the six original 'Sad Kahyangan' (territorial) temples on the island.

We were high up on the cliffs and huge monkeys were everywhere.

Cute little monkey and his mum... :D

another one seemed to be sleeping soundly

It was a long stairs to go up.... to see how high up we could go.

The sun was slowly setting down. Cloudy again it was. Sigh

One monkey was trying out the local bear.. BINTANG... while others seemed to have a beer belly of its own... this one was huge.

The clouds kinda spoilt the evening sunset but what was worse was that my fever was back again.. shessshh... took pain killers, hurried back to the hotel and I slept all night ... after the room dine-in of club sandwiches... ha ha..ha .. yum .. yum...
